NFL Draft - Early Notes

We're about a month out from the draft. Like with seemingly everything else other than work and the NBA, I don't seem to have spent as much time this year on the draft. Here's a few random thoughts:

-I like Brandon Weeden. I think he could be this year's Andy Dalton. He's very accurate and he's smart. He's not as athletic as Luck or Griffin, but I think he can succeed in the right situation. Unfortunately for him, I'm not sure if that situation is out there for him.

-Stephen Hill intrigues me. Usually, I love the combine but try to ignore most of the happenings there. I prefer to go off of what I've seen on the field. I don't remember him ever standing out when I watched GT last year. I'm sure he did, but I focus so much on their running game when I watch them. We'll see.

-I'm very interested in the Rams' draft. I'd like to see them be successful for whatever reason. Last year was a disappointment. Who will they get here and in the next couple years? I'm down to find out. Someone remind me in 2015 to write a post evaluating the Luck deal.

-I like looking for the next RB who people are underrating. I'll see a guy in college and just think that he'll be a good pro. Then, come draft time he'll be downgraded for some reason. The two examples that stand out in my mind are: (a) Earnest Graham, who finally did do well when he got a real chance, and (b) Ryan Mathews who flew up draft boards and hasn't lived up to expectations yet. This year, I think Bernard Pierce has a chance to be effective, but I'm not sure he has the explosiveness. Obviously, Trent Richardson is a beast physically. The guy, however, that I think is currently being underrated is LaMichael James out of Oregon. It probably says something about me being a square that I'm picking a guy who was a Heisman frontrunner going into the year, but so be it.

-I hope Michael Floyd lives up to his potential.

-I was not alone last year in saying that Morris Claiborne was the better CB over the honey badger. That's reflected in Claiborne being a probable top 5 pick. We'll have to see if Mathieu can continue his defensive play, his highlight returns, and stay healthy.

-Not one front seven D player I feel compelled to comment on. Hmmm.

Ok, cya.
